The Albert Lester Lehninger Collection spans his entire career at Johns Hopkins. He is the author of three classic texts: Biochemistry, The Mitochondrion, and Bioenergetics. He is credited with making fundamental contributions in bioenergetics, a field which deals with the way in which nutrients derived from food are oxidized and converted into a biochemically useable form. Lehninger came to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1952 as the DeLamar Professor and director of the department of physiological chemistry. in biochemistry, he held several faculty positions at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Chicago. in 1942 from the University of Wisconsin. in 1939 from Wesleyan University and his M.S. Albert Lester Lehninger was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
