Joe, which began in 1982 after every other editor at Marvel Comics passed on the “bottom-of-the-barrel” project based on a kid’s toy. ![]() But Hama is perhaps best known for his legacy as the writer-creator of G.I. Over the course of his five-decade career, he’s written for a range of titles, including Spider-Man, Batman, X-Men, The Avengers, Wonder Woman and Star Wars. Over a Zoom call while Hama finishes his ramen lunch, he speaks with the sort of candor you’d expect from a man who calls himself “an old punk from the Village.” Hama has also earned the right to speak his mind on comics. “It’s just like, ‘Let a superior person fix all your problems.’ This is a major trope of American entertainment.” Joe, is that superheros are “basically a fascist fantasy.” At least, that’s according to Larry Hama, the prolific comic book editor, writer and artist. ![]() The difference between superheros, like Spider-Man, and regular heros, like G.I. A shortsighted audio bookish type who has just 1 friend and not much of a life. Christine was the truth poking out in the lie of Rita Hayworth and Your Body.Ĭhristine is the story of Arnold “Arnie” Cunningham (a title taken from two Happy Days personalities). Stephen King – Christine Audiobook. Different Seasons was printed between Cujo and Christine, but it was composed much earlier, back when King was perhaps more accountable for what he was actually doing. Nonetheless, the sound books came, largely because he had them squirrelled away. ![]() They were well-hidden - and I will speak more about that include Tommyknockers time – they were there. He was not universally loved, but he had been universally offered, and that was probably sufficient for him. The simplest period of Stephen King’s writing to chat about is his ancient years. ![]() 6/28/2023 0 Comments Protector of the small series![]() This is the first of a series set in the same world as the Alanna books, but a decade or so later. Just know that I really, really, really love this series and I highly recommend it, especially if you're just getting into high fantasy. ![]() I also love how some of the other pages opinion of Kel changes over the course of the book and they also become really good friends with Kel.It's hard for me to explain my love for this series and how much it means to me and because of that I can't really give the book the review it deserves. I do think it helps to have read the song of the lioness series and the immortals series before reading this but the book still makes plenty of sense without knowing anything about those books so you don't have to read them.Kel and Neal are wonderful characters and I really enjoy their friendship. It's not too long, just short of 230 pages, but the story and the worldbuilding don't suffer because of it's length. Nostalgia aside, First Test is just a wonderful book on it's own. They are very, very special to me and I have always considered them to be completely underrated. Tamora Pierce's books, especially the protector of the small quartet, have always and will always have a special place in my heart because of how much they mean to me and how nostalgic I feel reading them. ![]() ![]() I first read this book in 7th grade when I discovered Tamora Pierce's books and fell in love with fantasy. ![]() 6/28/2023 0 Comments Gentlemen prefer blondes author![]() ![]() My initial hunch was correct: the film is mostly about two women chasing men. The title is misleading something like Two Broads Abroad or Masters Of Men would be more fitting. The film is incredibly ahead of its time. To my pleasant shock, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is wildly feminist, which is extra impressive, seeing as the second wave wouldn’t hit for another seven years. However, I also figured that I should at least collect concrete information about the film that I classified as sexist and shallow before I ended up on a diatribe about it sans any real facts. The title itself gives the audience the assumption that the male gaze is the prevalent point of view in the film, and I assumed the movie would revolve around two women chasing men. It didn’t surprise me when I started seeing images of the movie pop up over my social media accounts decorated with hearts and #vibe. ![]() ![]() While I find Monroe to be a complex and misunderstood icon (notably her friendship with Ella Fitzgerald and reported history of perhaps being lesbian-inclined), I tend to view the modern women who flock to her to be vapid and often full of internalized misogyny. When I noticed Hulu recently added the 1953 Marilyn Monroe classic, Gentlemen Prefers Blondes, I scoffed. ![]() ![]() ![]() Author Chetan was born in New Delhi, India on April 22, 1974. The only thing that bothered me was this seemingly major logic flaw, unless I'm just not understanding something, in which two people have to orgasm at the same time in order to go into The Quiet (the time stopping thing) together, Jon and Suzie have to really work together to accomplish it, yet the sex cops are constantly in The Quiet with them despite there being no way they could've synced up perfectly. Matt Fraction & Chip Zdarsky Suzie has a secret: for her, sex literally makes the world come to a standstill. There was a bit of heavier stuff involving mental illness, but it balanced out the funny. I once had a second date that lasted 8 hours, and I thought that was pretty good, but Suzie and Jon put me to shame. ![]() Everyone should aspire to have a relationship like the one they have! (Well, you know, minus the whole Bonnie and Clyde/bank robbing thing.) They were so open and secure and could talk about literally EVERYTHING with no jealousy or judgment. This was so hilarious I couldn't even handle it! But also, THIS COUPLE. ![]() ![]() ![]() Le Guin died last month at the age of 88. Le Guin’s very short, thought-provoking, and perhaps too easily simplified and reduced to a moral (albeit an important one) “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas.” Flannery O’Connor’s “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” and William Trevor’s “The Piano Tuner’s Wives,” two of my absolute favorites, are up against each other in the first round! Who put this thing together? It seems that God is smiling on Alfred when he delivers to him a ferocious soldier and canny warleader named Uhtred, a Saxon child raised by the Danes and familiar with both cultures and their ways of war. He has a name for this vision, "England," but needs warriors to bring it to fruition. Alfred has a vision of the seven kingdoms united as one, under one ruler and the One True God. The one man who may be able to stem the tide is the newly-crowned King of Wessex, Alfred. ![]() The British kingdoms are fighting back piecemeal, but are vulnerable to being attacked and destroyed in isolation.
